The higher your vehicle’s Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM)GA4 capacity, the higher the weight limit, so you can carry more, tow more, and be ready for anything.

What makes up a vehicle’s total GVM?

To put it simply, Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM)GA4 is the maximum permissible total mass of your vehicle when fully loaded.

The amount you can carry, known as vehicle payload, is calculated using your vehicle's GVM and kerb weight. This includes everything added to the vehicle, from passengers and pets to accessories, luggage, tools and cargo.

Before hitting the road, it's important to consider your total load to ensure your vehicle remains within its specified GVM limit.

Whether you're carrying the gear you need for work or loading up for your next adventure, every kilo counts. The HiLux’s GVM upgrade reinforces its suspension, increasing its max load-bearing capacity to an impressive 3,500kgG6K12.

Note: HiLux models with the GVM upgrade option have a stiffer suspension than the rest, so they’re engineered to feel smoothest when their payload is hefty. GVM upgrade option available only on selected HiLux variants produced from June 2026.

Understanding Toyota drivetrains

Our Dealers often get asked to explain the difference between the Toyota drivetrains. The fact is they all have specific purposes and advantages. Here’s a quick guide to what they do.

Engaged via a manual shifter, 4x4 powers all four wheel, giving you extra grip when the turf demands it.
