Before you test drive a car being sold privately:

Always check with the seller your legal liability should an accident occur while you’re driving.
Check the following components for, but not limited to, excessive wear and/or faults before and during the test drive

• Steering
• Brakes
• Exhaust
• Engine
• Transmission
• Suspension and body work

Inspecting a vehicle and negotiating

Before you purchase a car, thoroughly inspect the vehicle. If you’re not confident to inspect the vehicle yourself, there are third parties you can enlist to inspect the vehicle on your behalf.

• Where possible, inspect the vehicle in bright light and dry conditions.
• Ensure you thoroughly inspect the inside and outside of the car
• Ensure all vehicle compliance plates match registration papers
• Check all fluids and lubricant of the vehicle – look for signs of engine wear and leaks.

Vehicles at a Toyota dealer have been put through comprehensive mechanical and drive inspections, with Toyota Certified vehicles being placed under even further scrutiny.

When negotiating the price, take into consideration the initial on road costs when agreeing on your final price.
