This project provides opportunities for students to work on real world STEM projects.
Students design solutions to authentic conservation inspired STEM challenges faced by Werribee Open Range Zoo.
The ten-week program comprises: a teacher professional development workshop that supports teachers to prepare students for the program; introducing students to their STEM challenge at the zoo; students creating solutions back in the classroom; and students presenting their solutions to zoo staff.
The project is targeting primary and secondary teachers and students from 20 Wyndham schools.
Werribee Open Range Zoo is working with Monash University to document and evaluate both project implementation and outcomes. Learnings from this pilot will be used to scale the project to schools beyond Melbourne’s west and other Zoos Victoria sites.
This project addresses the need to provide students with engaging and real STEM education experiences inside and outside the classroom.
