The evolution of Toyota Hybrid

3 MAY, 2019

Aussie drivers have now bought over 100,000 Toyota Hybrids, and that number continues to grow. These forward-thinking Australians are driving the future, and the future is now.

So why are Australians flocking to Hybrids, and how did this come about?

The popularity of Toyota Hybrid is unsurprising as they can help reduce emissions and contribute to a cleaner, brighter future. It also puts flexibility and style at the forefront, making it the perfect all-rounder.

It’s amazing to think it was as far back as 1997 when Toyota launched what is now the world's best-selling Hybrid, Toyota Prius. It arrived in Australia in 2001 – and we’ve come a long way since then.

Not unlike today, early adopters of the Prius were drawn to its fuel efficiency. In 2004, a second-generation Prius was cleverly redesigned to be even more economical. A third-generation model in 2009 set new standards for environmental and driving performance. While the fourth-generation car, introduced in 2016 and recently upgraded, features an engaging drive, dramatic new styling and another impressive improvement in fuel economy.

With our mission to reduce emissions, we have continually advanced Toyota Hybrid technology further and expanded our range.

Today, the Toyota Hybrid line-up also includes the Prius c city car, Prius v seven-seater and the ever-popular Camry and Corolla. And now we’re launching Toyota Australia’s first Hybrid SUV – the RAV4 Hybrid. By the end of next year, we'll expand our range to 10 Hybrid models with even more in the pipeline, which means there’ll soon be a Toyota Hybrid for everyone.

So, why choose a Hybrid?

At its core, Toyota Hybrid’s petrol engine and electric motor work together to create a powerful, fuel-efficient system that makes a substantial difference to fuel use and emissions, especially when driving in stop-start city traffic.

Ultimately, a Hybrid offers you more than a smooth drive and the reliability Toyota is renowned for. With lower fuel costs and emissions, a Toyota Hybrid is as good for your back pocket as it is for the environment.

If you’re looking for a new car, it’s worth considering a Hybrid. And if you’re already a Hybrid owner, welcome to the future.
