Australia is home to some absolutely iconic swimming spots along its vast coastline. But what if you wanted something a little special. Something more… secret? Let’s give you all the information you need to tackle Australia’s best kept secrets, and a rundown of what to do when you get there.
And if you’re looking for a car more suitable for your chosen adventure, you can use KINTO to book, unlock and drive a Toyota vehicle that suits your lifestyle, all from your smartphone.
Home to two great surf beaches, this secluded spot is two-and-a-half hours out of Sydney, so don’t forget your surfboard!
Take a guided 4WD sand tour along the dunes and slide down their ever-shifting crests. Pack a picnic and visit the stunning Birubi Beach at the end of the Stockton Sand Dunes for a relaxing dip before heading back to the dunes for an unforgettable view of the sunset.
And there’s nothing like a cold dip after a long trek at the Buley Rockhole. This swimming spot is located within the park, just off the side street that turns into Florence Falls, with visitor parking nearby.
Set among several small, rapid flowing streams, and amongst the dense Australian forest, there’s plenty of scenery to capture with your camera. You might even spot some friendly wildlife!
We recommend going early in the morning to enjoy the pools all to yourself, but there is plenty of places around the park to eat lunch in private.
Generally considered a testing hike, this reclusive spot is perfect for adventurers looking to cut their teeth on something challenging and rewarding.
This beautiful locale is in backcountry with no nearby parking, so campers will have to carry everything they need on their stay. Only pack the essentials (camping equipment, drinking water and cooking equipment) and book ahead of time to ensure the easiest experience.
Once there, enjoy the stunning view, take a dip, read under the stars. Relax. It’s your time now, and it’s best spent however you please.
Nestled between long sandy beaches and towering cliffs, Rapid Bay is 105 kilometres south of Adelaide and down a steep road, so mind your front wheels!
Put your best spelunking shoes on and have a look around in the caves at the end of the bay. Expansive and full of rugged beauty, they give an amazing view out to the ocean and the nearby cliffside rock formations. Plus, they have many hidden corners for expert explorers.
Or take some kayaks, and make the journey over to the caves from the local Second Valley Beach. A perfect day trip for two hungry adventurers.
Agnes Water is located at the Southern end of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, 90 minutes out of Bundaberg and Gladstone and perfect to explore in a Toyota 4WD.
Stay at one of their stunning retreats in the township and trek on down to Workman’s Beach, a secluded surf beach sheltered from wind. Surf lessons are taught by the locals on the main beach, should you want to brush up on your skills beforehand.
Or lace up those bootstraps for the Discovery Trail – a 45-minute loop track located behind the Museum on Springs Road. Come in the winter and observe whale migrations off the coast, or view the beauty of Workman’s Beach and the surrounding coastline from up high, all year round.
It can be quite magical to find a swimming spot away from the crowds – a spot to properly decompress from life. Maybe it’s time to get out there in your Toyota and soak in some serenity...
