In season 2021, the Toyota Good for Footy Suggestion Box was thrown open to AFL lovers across the nation. We asked players, fans, coaches and volunteers… How can we make footy gooder for you?

We got hundreds of suggestions, and with your help, we’ve made footy better for thousands of people across Australia. Take a look at just a few of the great Good for Footy stories below.
The kids of the The Jindalee Districts Football Netball Club all together for a huge group photo in front of their home base in Jindalee in Brisbane.

The Jags kicking goals with the Raffle

The Jindalee Districts Football Netball Club set themselves an ambitious fundraising target this season; $20,000 to redevelop their change rooms and facilities. Luckily for them, some bright spark suggested they sign up for the Toyota Good for Footy Raffle, and their local community has backed them big time. They’ve raised more than $18,000 already, and are on track to smash that target come finals time. Now that’s Good for Footy!

The boys of The North Warrnambool Football Club all gathered around, listening to their coach on the footy oval in Warrnambool.

Some things are bigger than footy

The North Warrnambool Football Club was recently rocked by the devastating news that one of their juniors had been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. But one thing we know about great footy clubs; they unite to support one another in times of hardship. The Eagles and their amazing local community have come together to raise $21,000 and counting with the Toyota Good for Footy Raffle. They’re raising for a cause bigger than the game, to help make this fight that little bit easier for one of their own.
The girls of The Busselton Magpies footy club all lined up in rows for an official club photograph with their coach, looking proud wearing black and white uniforms.

Magpies’ girls earn new stripes

The Busselton Magpies play in the south west corner of WA and absolutely love their footy, but the junior girls have been running out in ill-fitting boys jerseys and hand-me-downs from the senior women. It’s less than ideal. So Toyota looked after them with a Good for Footy Gear Grant, and they now compete in tailor made black and white stripes and they aim to go back-to-back premiers. Good luck, Maggies!

The girls of the Noranda Hawks in Noranda, WA, posed in a line together on their local oval at night, proudly wearing their new footy jerseys.

Noranda score new gear for the girls

The Noranda Hawks in WA takes players from Auskick right through to the Under 18s, but they were struggling to supply jumpers that fit their junior girls properly. When they suggested to Toyota that they’d love to play in a reversible indigenous jersey this season, we jumped in to help with a Good for Footy Gear Grant. Looking gooder, girls!
Four young kids and an AFL player together in the stands overlooking a footy oval, partaking in a Toyota Australia and Variety Children’s Charity partnered event.

Lighting up lives with a taste of the big-time

‘Can you make footy ‘gooder’ for disadvantaged kids by taking them to an AFL game to see their idols play?’ Yes we can! Toyota teamed up with Variety Children’s Charity to invite 50 special kids to big games across Australia. We gave them the full VIP experience; with great seats, footy food, team merch and even a meet-and-greet with an AFL star. That’s Good for Footy!
An AFL player standing with a resident at the Blairlogie Living & Learning centre in Cranbourne South, VIC, together holding Toyota’s bright red Good For Footy suggestion box.

Blairlogie show their true colours

Blairlogie Living & Learning centre is committed to supporting people with a disability, helping them achieve their goals and pursue their interests. Many residents are massive AFL fans who wear their team colours all year round. So when we got a suggestion that they could use some new fan gear, we sent two AFL legends to Blairlogie to hand out some merch and teach new skills to the gang. That’s Good for Footy!

Renovation rescue for the Razorbacks

Swinburne Amateur FC are expanding to welcome a Womxn's team to welcome LGBTQI+ & non-binary players to the club, but a lack of appropriate facilities is holding back recruitment. They asked for help to convert their old basement into a new change room for the team to prepare on match days. Toyota is not only providing a cash grant to help out with renovations, but we’re kick-starting the clean up with a working-bee too.
A young male footballer and an AFL celebrity standing on the pitch of the Stawell Swifts Football Netball Club, the footballer holding a shining silver victory cup, and the celebrity holding a red siren, pointing at the siren cheekily.

A new siren sounds in Stawell

The Stawell Swifts Football Netball Club have spent every last dollar redeveloping their home ground, and now boast facilities the envy of the region. Only problem is, they’ve run out of cash and are stuck with a second-rate siren that runs off an old car battery! So when they asked the Toyota Suggestion Box for a ‘gooder sounding siren’, we listened! Toyota has installed an MCG-quality siren that will echo across Stawell for years to come. Oh what a feeling!
Two footy players presenting a representative of the Stansbury Football Club a large $8000 cheque at the Stansbury Oval in South Australia, on a sunny afternoon.

Making the stand grand again

Stansbury Oval in South Australia boasts one of only three grandstands in the entire Yorke Peninsula footy league, but it’s currently closed to the public due to safety concerns. A suggestion was submitted from the Stansbury Sporting Club to assist with the refurbishment of this run-down relic, and Toyota is helping by providing an $8000 grant towards renovations. Stand tall, Stansbury!
Two representatives of the Manly Bombers in NSW participating in a Virtual Huddle via webcam with The Bombers’ Under 16 girl team via Zoom during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Virtual huddles with AFLW greats

Whilst stuck in COVID-induced lockdown, representatives of the Manly Bombers in NSW popped an idea in the Toyota suggestion box - ‘How can we inspire our girls and keep them connected to the game they love?’ At Toyota, we leaned on our mates at AFLW, and delivered an amazing ‘Virtual Huddle’ for the local players and coaches via Zoom. The Bombers’ U16 girls got to meet the players, and learn how they were honing their skills and staying strong during trying times. That’s Good for Footy!
