Grass roots practical support

Local Council Grants

We provide annual Equipment Grants to each of the two local areas where we have significant operations – Port Melbourne and Altona.

Read more about how our grants have helped community groups in each council area:

  • City of Hobsons Bay
  • City of Port Phillip

City of Port Phillip

The Annual Equipment Grants in the City of Port Phillip provide practical support for grassroots community organisations. Equipment bought using the grants has included life jackets, stackable chairs, defibrillators, gardening equipment and even a jumping castle for a local Toy Library.

Southport Uniting Care used their grant to purchase tools and equipment for the BOLT early intervention program. BOLT engages boys aged 10-12 years who might be at risk of disengaging from education.

As well as the grants, we also support a mentoring program for small to medium sized community organisations within the municipality.

City of Hobsons Bay

Over the last four years, we have worked with Hobsons Bay City Council to support more than 100 local community groups through our equipment grants. Groups receiving grants have included schools, sporting clubs, community centres, garden clubs, seniors clubs and creative groups.

Seabrook Kindergarten used their grant to purchase a visual communication software system, interactive activities and toys that cater to the individual needs of all their children, including those with special needs. Activities have fostered one on one playing opportunities between child and teacher as well as cooperative play, increasing the children’s knowledge and confidence.

Disaster relief

Toyota Australia has been there for communities devastated by natural disasters. We’ve responded to significant events like the 2009 Victorian bushfires and the 2011 Queensland and Victorian floods with both monetary and in-kind support.

In 2012, the Toyota Community Foundation introduced a Disaster Relief Policy, to make sure our response is effective and reaches where it is needed most.

At Toyota, we recognise that we can provide the most value in the Endurance stage of relief efforts - when government support ceases or decreases, but communities might still need support to rebuild. It is at this time we have supported targeted community organisations with vehicle loans and other additional forms of support.
