Safer braking
All Yaris grades have Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i). This is a computerised system that reads electronic sensors in each wheel and then feeds back instructions to the brakes to make them work as efficiently as possible.

Get a grip with ABS brakes
Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) technology constantly adjusts the speed of each wheel during braking to help ensure that the wheels that have most grip, receive the most brake force. This helps to prevent the wheels from locking and causing a skid and makes braking on slippery surfaces much safer.
The force is with you with Brake Assist
If you ever need to stop fast, Yaris senses from the pressure on the brake pedal that it's an emergency and Brake Assist (BA) automatically supplies extra braking force to help you stop in the shortest distance possible.
No slip ups with Electronic Brake Distribution
On uneven or partially slippery surfaces, feedback from sensors tells Yaris which wheels have the best grip. It also tells the car where the weight is (mostly at the front when traveling downhill and to the sides when cornering). The car then uses Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) to balance and direct braking force to the wheels with the most traction. This helps Yaris to stop more safely in the difficult driving conditions.
ABS (Anti-Skid Braking System)
Modern electronics and a hydraulic actuator compares and adjusts wheel speeds when braking to prevent wheel lock-up and hence a potential skid.
Brake Assist (BA)
A system designed to assist the driver in emergency braking, where the driver cannot apply the high pedal force required to obtain the shortest possible braking distance. It supplements the braking power applied if the driver has not pushed hard enough on the brake pedal in an emergency braking situation - working in conjunction with ABS.
Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)
A sophisticated electronic system designed to minimise stopping distances by maximising braking power to the wheels with the most grip. It replaces the conventional load sensing proportioning valve. The latest Toyota EBD can adjust the fore/aft brake balance according to vehicle load and the right/left brake balance if the brakes are applied during cornering.
