National Tree Day is a very important event for our country.
Through National Tree Day and Schools Tree Day, Toyota and Planet Ark are working to build a greater understanding of how people can help to create a better environment for future generations. Planting native trees and shrubs is a simple, effective and recognised way to help prevent soil erosion, provide soil enrichment, improve water quality and provide our native wildlife with food and shelter. Trees also play a part in helping to combat the greenhouse effect.
Each year Toyota Dealers around the country work with local schools and communities to drive planting activities and provide assistance in organising events.
Toyota's ambassadors also play a part in helping to spread the word and encourage people to get involved in National Tree Day.
National Tree Day was created by Planet Ark in 1996 as the focal point for a nationwide campaign to promote community tree planting. It engages schools, local councils and communities. Toyota and its national network of Dealers became the principal sponsor in 2000 and have worked with Planet Ark every year since to enhance and improve local communities around the country. National Tree Day has grown to become Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care activity. Over the time, more than 22 million trees have been planted by almost 4 million volunteers at thousands of schools and local community sites.
Schools Tree Day: Friday 29 July
National Tree Day: Sunday 31 July
