Materiality and Verification
Materiality
Toyota Australia is committed to focusing on the issues that matter most to its business and to its stakeholders. The company takes a triple bottom line approach by considering its key economic, social and environmental issues throughout the lifecycle. This means considering impacts from the sourcing of materials through to the manufacture of vehicles and distribution. This includes collaborating with suppliers, dealers, logistics providers, employees and other stakeholders throughout the value chain to reduce environmental impacts and to maximise efficiency. The company's reporting reflects this wide focus on its business environment.
Each year since 2009, Toyota Australia has conducted a stakeholder survey to ensure input and feedback from its key stakeholder groups is integrated into the company's planning, strategies and reporting. In 2010, the company interviewed suppliers, government, investors, non-governmental organisations and community representatives. Stakeholders were asked to give feedback on what they thought were Toyota Australia's key issues. The findings from this survey have assisted in the development of the 2011 sustainability reporting site. For more information on this survey please click here.
The company also obtains feedback from its key stakeholder groups through its annual employee satisfaction survey, customer satisfaction surveys, dealer training and environmental programs and supplier development programs. In addition Toyota Australia holds regular face-to-face meetings with government and community stakeholders. These engagement methods ensure that the company is aware of its key issues and is responsive to its stakeholder groups.
Toyota Australia encourages its stakeholders to contact the company to provide any additional feedback via email: environment@toyota.com.au
Verification
Toyota Australia uses the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 guidelines to report on its economic, social and environmental impacts. Please click here to view the GRI Index which has achieved an A Application Level. The application of the guidelines has been checked by the GRI.
The company has engaged external providers for the past four years to verify and assure the information in its annual sustainability report. This process has demonstrated that Toyota Australia has rigorous processes and systems for data collection and reporting. Therefore, going forward Toyota Australia will focus on verifying the most material performance data.
In FY11 the company's carbon emissions data making up the carbon footprint of a Camry has been verified by PricewaterhouseCoopers. Toyota will aim to verify its carbon data annually and all other information on a two year cycle. Copies of all verification reports for the past three years will be published through this webpage. The economic performance data is from Toyota Australia's audited accounts.
