Toyota is set to expand the hybrid range

To further support Toyota's commitment to developing vehicles that reduce your fleet's impact on the environment, the new hybrid range is set to launch in Australia in the first half of this year.

Toyota currently sells 16 hybrid models in approximately 80 countries and regions around the world. The global total of Toyota hybrid sales was 3.03 million at the end of February 2011, inclusive of 2.1 million Prius and 210,000 Camry Hybrid, with fleet sales in Australia totalling 12,550 Prius hatches and 8,486 Camry Hybrid sedans.

Toyota Japan has calculated worldwide sales of hybrid vehicles since 1997 have contributed greatly to the reduction of CO2 emissions. Toyota hybrid vehicles have generated approximately 18 million fewer tonnes* of CO2 than would have been produced by petrol-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance. That's equivalent to the approximate mass of 94,500 fully grown blue whales.

"Toyota is endeavouring to promote the widespread use of hybrid vehicles," says David Buttner, Toyota Australia's Senior Executive Director, Sales and Marketing. "With global cumulative sales of Toyota hybrid vehicles passing the 3 million mark, it's clear that these vehicles are starting to enter the mainstream."

More Fleet Managers today are seeking fit-for-purpose vehicles that produce fewer emissions and the current hybrid range, along with soon-to-be-released Toyota hybrids, offer a solution for all types of fleets. The new additions to the hybrid family, to be released the first half of 2012 – including the new Camry Hybrid, Prius facelift, Prius C (a compact hybrid) and Prius V (a five seat hybrid wagon), will extend the current hybrid range to offer Fleet Managers more choice.
