Award for Excellence in Water Management

Toyota's 5-year Environmental Action Plan outlines its water reduction targets and summarises past achievements. Toyota's actual results often surpass set targets, hence the goals set in the Environmental Action Plan are regularly revised and re-set to encourage new innovations and allow for the setting of new benchmarks for the future.

Water consumption is a particularly pertinent issue at the moment considering the severity of the drought and very low water levels in Melbourne's reservoirs. Whilst the community is subject to water restrictions, Toyota is taking a proactive role in reducing its water consumption by:

  • setting challenging reduction targets
  • promoting awareness through programs like The Natural Step and at monthly Environmental Manufacturing Operations Group meetings
  • inviting suggestions from employees via the Improvement Ideas Scheme and recognising them for their efforts at the annual Environmental Workgroup Awards

Water savings projects over the past four years have reduced water consumption by 26%, saving in excess of 150 million litres.
