Toyota Tarago Features mechanical

Mechanical

When it comes to rapid transit, Australia's most renowned people mover hasn't stood still. Tarago grades are offered with a choice between a highly-efficient 2.4 litre 4-cylinder (GLi and GLX) and an advanced 3.5 litre quad cam V6 engine (GLi, GLX and Ultima) to further accelerate Tarago ahead of its rivals.

3.5-litre V6 or 2.4-litre 4-cylinder performance

A true People Mover requires an engine with true power to move. That's why the Tarago gives you the choice between a high performance 3.5L 202kW# V6 and an enhanced 2.4L twin-cam multi-valve 4-cylinder. Both engines feature Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), which allows continual variations of the intake valve timing, creating optimal engine output under all operating conditions. The V6 comes with the benefit of Dual VVT-i and this technology further assists engine performance. As the revs change, so does the timing of both the intake and exhaust valves, ensuring the engine receives the right amount of fuel and air at precisely the right time. It even reburns some of the exhaust gases at moderate engine speeds. So you get power when you need it and economy when you don't.

Smooth ride

The Tarago is now smoother than ever, thanks to completely redesigned suspension. The design increases tension and strength, while decreasing friction and weight, resulting in a much more comfortable, more stable ride, even on rough roads with a full load of passengers. It features MacPherson strut suspension at the front and torsion-beam rear suspension, calibrated and tuned for Australia's local roads and subjected to rigorous all-weather, on-road testing prior to sign-off. What's more, advanced aerodynamics reduce wind turbulence and noise, for a quieter, smoother ride.

Toyota and the environment

Toyota believes in a future for our children. In fact, we became the first car manufacturer ever to receive the United Nations Global 500 Award for outstanding contributions to the environment. The Toyota Tarago boasts VVT-i engine technology and Electronic Controlled Transmission (ECT) with high efficiency lock-up torque converter. It incorporates recyclable materials wherever possible, with a wide range of its parts made from reusable sources. And it contains minimal quantities of lead and PVC, as Toyota's highly recyclable Super Olefin Polymer has been used in place of plastic wherever possible.

Electric Power Steering (EPS)

Electric Power Steering is another first for Tarago. EPS offers maximum assistance at low speeds, which is perfect for tight parking situations. At higher speeds, assistance is reduced for optimum road feel. And to tailor your steering position for comfort and control, a tilt and telescopic adjustable steering column is standard. On the Toyota Tarago, even the power steering is environmentally conscious! Because it's electric, Tarago's advanced power steering minimises fuel consumption and eliminates the need for hydraulic oil in the steering system, simultaneously saving you money and reducing emissions.
