Prius c is a compact hybrid - comfortable and powerful enough for the open road, but it really comes into its own around town.
Powered by Toyota’s world leading Hybrid Synergy Drive® technology, which combines a 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol engine with a powerful electric motor.
Everything about Prius c has been designed with efficiency in mind –with technology that provides ongoing feedback which helps you actively improve the way you drive efficiently.
Prius c is designed to be nippy and agile enough for the busiest traffic yet compact enough to park in the most awkward spaces.
Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive® system is world leading technology. It teams a petrol engine with an electric motor. And unlike many other hybrid systems, each power unit is capable of driving the car on its’ own or in partnership with the other. This means that at low speeds, such as in stop start traffic the electric motor can power the car on its own, lowering CO2 emissions [J9] to zero. The advanced system monitors driving conditions and supplies the optimum balance of power and economy accordingly. Because the hybrid battery gets all the charge it needs from normal driving and reclaiming energy that would normally be wasted in braking, Prius c never needs plugging in.
Both front and rear suspension, are optimally tuned to improve ride and create a smooth steering feel. The design of the front MacPherson Strut suspension allows Prius c to turn in surprisingly tight space with a minimum turning radius of 4.8m.
Prius c doesn’t use a conventional gearbox. Instead, it features Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which is a highly efficient way to transfer power from the engine to the road. Infinite gear ratios are available and the system seamlessly adjusts itself so that the ratio is ideal for the driver’s needs at any time.
As well as normal driving mode, there are two additional modes the driver can switch to.
In ‘ECO’ mode, Prius c automatically manages fuel usage and optimises the air conditioning system to ensure the most efficient use of power and minimise fuel consumption.
In ‘EV’ (Electric Vehicle) mode Prius c can run for a short distance at low speed, on the electric motor alone. This is useful to reduce noise at night in residential areas and to cut emissions when parking in a garage or underground car park.
