Toyota Prado Features Car Safety Traction Control

Traction Control

Multi-Terrain Select++ (MTS) is the latest evolution of our Active-Traction Control (A-TRC) system.

Working hand-in-hand with the Prado's Multi-terrain Anti-Lock Braking System to minimise wheel lock-up, MTS gives you various surface options to choose from - mud and sand, loose rock, rock or mogul. And you control it all from the steering wheel.

How Active-Traction Control works

Active-Traction Control regulates the distribution of torque to each individual wheel to prevent tyres from idle running while brake pressure is electronically controlled at each wheel to suppress wheel spin and maintain optimum traction. This ensures that each wheel receives the optimum drive force for the conditions.

When the Prado moves off on a slippery surface, sensors detect if any wheels are losing traction and A-TRC reduces the torque to them and increases the torque to tyres with traction to keep the car moving forward smoothly.

This helps to minimise the chances of becoming stuck in mud or soft sand, slipping back when taking a steep ascent on loose rock or becoming lodged when crossing moguls or rocks. It enables the Prado to tackle the most treacherous surfaces and conditions.
