Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive Committed to improving the global environment

Our commitment to the world

Since our founding, we have engaged in business activities under the guiding principle "contributing to the development of a prosperous society through the manufacture of automobiles."

We take our responsibility to the environment seriously, and this commitment extends well beyond the running impact of our vehicles themselves. The entire life cycle of a vehicle has an impact on the environment. From its design, to its manufacture to its eventual disposal at the end of its useful life.

We approach every aspect of motoring's involvement with the environment in mind. We are constantly improving our manufacturing process to reduce our carbon footprint.

Our engineers and designers, having developed the concept of Hybrid Synergy Drive®, have constantly improved it over the last 30 years with clever innovations and technological advances. So that our hybrid cars are a significant step towards our vision of sustainable motoring.

Even further, we consider ways in which we can contribute to the broader environment beyond automobiles. Ways in which we can improve future lifestyles and help achieve a comfortable and sustainable living environment for all.

This includes material for housing, infrastructure, communications technologies and advanced robotics. These are all designed with one purpose in mind - to harmonise the relationship between man, nature and machine.

In October 1999, manufacturing base of Prius, Japan's Tsutsumi plant became our first plant to achieve zero landfill waste. The plant also has an exterior coated with photo-catalytic paint, which breaks down air-born nitrogen and sulphur oxides and absorbs many of the harmful emissions produced by the plant.
