    As a result, HiLux's design and construction satisfies Toyota's stringent passive safety guidelines with an impact absorbing cabin complete with side door anti-intrusion beams and a Head Impact Protection Structure (HIPS), so it helps absorb impact. There is also a cross member at the front end of the frame, helping prevent smaller vehicle intrusion.

    The protection and safety of driver and passengers is a priority. That’s why HiLux comes with driver and front passenger SRS airbags as standard on every model. The airbags work together with the pre-tensioning seatbelts to help keep both you and your passenger safe in frontal collisions. Front seat side and full length curtain SRS airbags^ are also available in the SR5 4x4 Double Cab model.

  • Anti-skid Braking System (ABS standard on SR5 and optional on SR) On road or off, anti-skid braking (ABS) can be a life-saver.

ABS prevents your wheels from locking up, so you're less likely to skid under heavy braking. So you’ll have confidence knowing that you and your passengers are protected by proven safety technology.
  • Pre-tensioning seatbelts Working in conjunction with the dual SRS airbags, HiLux's 3-point pre-tensioning driver and passenger seatbelts automatically retract in frontal collisions for much better restraint. Xtra Cab and Double Cab models also have two 3-point Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) belts in the back.

  • Brake pedal & steering column impact absorption technology The brake pedal has been designed to separate upon frontal impact, and the pedal stopper at the lower part of the instrument panel helps reduce the volume of pedal retraction into the driver’s foot space.

    Under impact, the steering column is also designed to absorb impact and includes an advanced tension-release mechanism that collapses beyond a defined resistance threshold. More specifically, the steering wheel and wheel pad (or airbag) absorb impact, while simultaneously, the steering support collar of the lower bracket breaks and the steering column tube moves forwards and away. The energy absorbing plate then deforms to further absorb shock energy.
