The powerful HiLux 3.0-litre Turbo Diesel engine delivers a combination of excellent performance and surprising fuel economy. Available in all grades [H8] , it features EDI (Electronic Direct Injection) and a common rail system for excellent performance and fuel efficiency. The common rail system improves combustion efficiency while the variable vane turbo charger maximises low-end torque and provides a sharper response.

HiLux's powerful 3.0-litre Turbo Diesel engine provides excellent acceleration from take-off as well as offering a smooth response when you need to accelerate to pass another vehicle in the mid to high-speed ranges. And all that while towing your equipment or carrying a load for a job [J8] . The engine comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed automatic with gated shift (model dependent).

Great performance doesn't need to mean greater damage to the environment. The Turbo Diesel engine comfortably meets EURO IV emissions regulations. The catalytic converter has been increased in size. This increases the surface area of the material helping to absorb air pollutants such as nitrous oxides and CO2, so fewer toxins are released into the environment.

And it doesn't stop there. An Engine Gas Recirculation (EGR) system re-circulates exhaust into the intake stream. Because exhaust gases have already combusted, they don't burn again when they're re-circulated, but they do displace some of the normal intake. This reduces the amount of oxygen in the chamber which lowers combustion temperature by several hundred degrees. As a result less nitrous oxide (NOX) is formed. On top of this, the engine computer unit has been reconfigured to encourage more complete combustion, to reduce excess gasses being released into the environment.
