Toyota Star Maker
As Australia's oldest and most successful music talent search, each year Toyota Star Maker crowns a bright new star on the country music scene.
The prestigious talent quest is credited with kick-starting the careers of many country music greats, with the list of former winners reading like a star-studded roll call. They include Keith Urban, Lee Kernaghan, James Blundell, Gina Jeffreys, Beccy Cole along with Samantha McClymont of The McClymonts, Luke Austen and Luke Dickens.
Most recently, the 40th Tamworth Country Music Festival saw 2012's Toyota Star Maker crowned as Bob Corbett who beat 19 other hopefuls to take up the mantle. Hailing from Newcastle, Bob's no newcomer to the music scene, having made his living from music for the past 20 years. What winning Toyota Star Maker will do is give Bob the platform to take his career to that next level, with his young family along for what will surely be an exciting ride!
First staged in 1979, the illustrious Star Maker competition has been supported by Toyota as major sponsor since 1996, and along with an album recording contract, a Maton acoustic guitar, an array of high profile performance bookings and a trip to Nashville, the lucky winner also receives 12 months' use of a brand new, fully-serviced Toyota motor vehicle, complete with fuel card for a year to keep them on the road.
The ongoing support for Toyota Star Maker is testament to Toyota's commitment to supporting Australia's rural communities, as well as ensuring that emerging country music talent gets the chance to showcase their talents and really make their mark on the road to stardom.
