Toyota Corolla features Car Safety

Car safety

Corolla car safety (Audio shown is pre March 2012 production).

The world's most popular small car has a long list of world class car safety systems with inbuilt intelligence to help you avoid accidents.

Chances are you'll never see all of the safety features in action, but it's always good to know they're there when you need them and reassuring to know they have passed the most stringent global safety tests.

Corolla's body incorporates special reinforcements and crumple zones built around the energy absorbing central Safe-T-Cell and driver and front passenger airbags to minimise injuries when accidents happen.

With all these world-class active safety features, Corolla is not only the most popular small car on our roads but it's also one of the safest.

Brake system

Standard across the Corolla range, its Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i) system is simply world class. AB-i includes Anti-skid Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).

Brake Assist (BA) interprets a sudden, quick push of the brake pedal as emergency braking and increases your braking pressure to reduce the stopping distance. It also applies additional pressure when required.

Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)

Corolla is fitted with a sophisticated braking technology called Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Cleverly attuned to the weight distribution inside the car, EBD helps keep the car more stable and balanced when braking, particularly when you have to stop suddenly.

Every Corolla comes equipped with driver and front passenger SRS airbags to reduce the risk of serious injury to the head and chest. A total of seven airbags are standard and include driver's knee SRS airbag and full-length side curtain-shield airbags.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is a fast acting, computer-based system which automatically activates in emergency driving situations and controls skidding when cornering. It cleverly detects that your intended path and intervenes, helping ensure safer cornering.

Traction Control (TRC) technology is designed to improve the car's contact with the road in poor driving conditions. Should the system detect that one or more wheels are starting to spin, Traction Control automatically applies a braking force to those drive wheels.

Safe-T-Cell

The energy absorbing central Safe-T-Cell and crumple zones work to deflect much of the force of a collision away from you and your passengers. Together with the Minimal Intrusion Cabin System (MICS), it keeps the Corolla's cabin extremely safe.
