Set the wipers to automatic and the system turns itself on when there's water on the windscreen from rain, mist or spray.
As conditions change, the wipers speed up and slow down automatically depending on how much water is hitting the windscreen. And when the spray dies down, the mist clears or the rain stops, the wipers stop too. So there's no need to keep adjusting them.
