Reduced (NVH) - the very quiet new Toyota Camry

The Very Quiet New Camry

High noise and vibration levels in a car can make driving stressful and tiring. So in re–designing Camry we have taken several innovative measures to improve the acoustic packaging of the car and reduce vehicle Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH).

Lowered engine noise

We sought to reduce engine noise in all–new Camry by improving the function of the engine mount dynamic damper and cutting air intake and exhaust noise. The roof pillars, wheel housing and door seals were also modified helping to make the vehicle even quieter.

We also insulated the boot area. And in Camry H and Camry HL we have also adopted acoustic glass for the windscreen.

But we didn’t stop there. We also looked at ways to reduce NVH by modifying the aerodynamic performance of the car’s exterior. We adjusted new Camry’s A–pillar to create a flush surface and reduce the step from the windscreen. We altered the shape of the outside mirror and re–positioned the front wiper to reduce the velocity of air flowing over it.

The resulting reduction in NVH (engine noise has been reduced by up to 2dB compared to previous Camry model) makes new Camry an exceptionally quiet car to travel in. Which means that even on rough road surfaces, or passing road works, you can have a pleasant conversation or listen to music without having to shout or turn the volume up.
