Camry NG Features Hybrid Overview

Performance with Efficiency

The Hybrid Engine  unit in Camry H and Camry HL offers the best of all worlds. A 2.5 L petrol engine has been teamed with an advanced electric motor. This combination delivers significantly more power than the previous Hybrid Camry with torque increased across all engine speeds, improving overall performance and acceleration[B13]. Yet, in spite of the dynamic improvement in performance, Camry H and Camry HL use less fuel and produce lower emissions[G1] than the previous Hybrid Camry. Making them cleaner and more economical than previous Hybrid Camry.

Camry Hybrids are surprisingly cheap to service. And the environmental and fuel-consumption benefits do not mean any sacrifice in comfort or handling. In fact, Camry H and Camry HL are quieter, offer more legroom, more internal space and more boot space than the previous Hybrid Camry. And as anyone who takes a test drive will know, compared to many medium sized sedans, Camry H and Camry HL offer truly positive ride and handling. And unusually for Hybrids, Camry H and Camry HL offer a genuine towing capacity.

Toyota's world leading Hybrid Synergy Drive® (HSD) technology is an advanced Hybrid System  which teams a petrol engine with an advanced electric motor. The system intelligently manages the input from each power source depending on the driving situation, to provide the optimum balance of performance and fuel economy. The result is that Camry H and Camry HL deliver truly dynamic performance while achieving low fuel consumption of 5.2L/100km[G1] and reducing CO2 emissions to 121g/km[G1].

Benefits of Hybrid Technology in Camry H and Camry HL

  • Excellent fuel efficiency - 5.2L/100km[G1]
  • Low CO2 emissions - 121g/km[G1]
  • Parallel Hybrid engine enables emissions to be reduced to zero in slow or stop-start traffic
  • Powerful performance
  • Comfortable, quiet ride

MORE ABOUT HYBRID SYNERGY DRIVE®

Hybrid engines work by combining power from more than one source. In Camry H and Camry HL, the power sources are a 2.5 Litre petrol engine and an advanced battery-powered electric motor. This combination delivers powerful performance along with high fuel efficiency while minimising CO2 emissions.

MORE ABOUT HOW HYBRIDS WORK

The Hybrid Engine  in Camry H and Camry HL combines a 2.5 Litre petrol engine with an advanced electric motor. Using Toyota's Hybrid Synergy DriveŽ technology, the two power sources work in parallel and can drive the car independently or together. This 'fully hybrid' system enables truly dynamic performance while at the same time delivering high fuel efficiency and exceptionally low CO2 emissions.

MORE ABOUT HYBRID ENGINE

A key part of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy DriveŽ system is the advanced battery technology. The battery in Camry H and HL is a high power output, nickel-metal-hydride (Ni-MH) battery. It is designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle and requires little maintenance. It also comes with an 8 year warranty.[W1]

MORE ABOUT HYBRID BATTERY

Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD)

Camry Hybrid - Hybrid Synergy Drive

The Hybrid Synergy Drive developed by Toyota integrates the desirable elements of a petrol engine and an electric motor. It uses the spontaneous high torque from the electric motor from rest for starting. For cruising in the high-speed range, it utilizes the efficient power of the petrol engine. The management system carefully selects the optimum combination of the petrol engine and electric motor in order to maximise fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
