A Toyota first, Hybrid Camry's VDIM integrates Electric Power Steering (EPS) with Toyota's Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Anti-skid Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Traction Control (TRC).
Collective intelligence
Typically, car safety systems such as braking, steering, vehicle stability and traction control would function independently. But Hybrid Camry is not your typical car. It includes an intelligent Toyota-first safety system known as Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management, or VDIM for short.
VDIM manages these systems collectively, so that each is integrated and expertly managed. The system constantly assesses and effortlessly controls all the car safety functions to comprehensively guide the balance and handling of Hybrid Camry even in the most trying of conditions.
This means that on slippery roads, the car automatically applies resistance and assistance to steering torque to assist against a spin-out. Similarly, if you oversteer while cornering, causing your rear wheels to skid, VDIM instinctively applies the necessary corrective action. So you can feel assured in these conditions.
Intelligent decision-making
By integrating the control of these previously independent safety technologies, the system picks up a range of information about the car and the current driving conditions. Information including wheel rotation, how far the throttle is open and braking pressure on each of the four wheels is relayed, and constantly assessed. By comparing these sources of information, VDIM electronically adjusts the various car safety systems to make the car more responsive to you and the prevailing conditions - enhancing safety as well as overall dynamic performance.
For instance, if the system anticipates the potential for loss of traction or driver control, it will coordinate the required a combination of braking, acceleration and steering assistance and attempt to correct any potential situation, even before you sense any trouble.
